From morrone2 at llnl.gov Sat Mar 14 00:20:10 2015 From: morrone2 at llnl.gov (Christopher J. Morrone) Date: Fri, 13 Mar 2015 17:20:10 -0700 Subject: [lustre-announce] Lustre 2.7.0 released Message-ID: <55037EBA.7020704@llnl.gov> We are pleased to announce that the Lustre 2.7.0 Release has been declared GA and packages are available for download. http://downloads.hpdd.intel.com/public/lustre/lustre-2.7.0 The source code is also available directly from the public git repository. http://git.whamcloud.com/fs/lustre-release.git/snapshot/8eb26594344887fabc4b81245abd12b1aeefbccb.tar.gz git://git.whamcloud.com/fs/lustre-release.git This major release includes the following new features: * MDT-MDT Consistency Verification (LFSCK Phase 3) - Extends the FID-in-direct and linkEA verification from single MDT to cross-MDTs cases, and adds some inconsistent check/repair for remote object and striped directory. This development is funded by OpenSFS. https://jira.hpdd.intel.com/browse/LU-4788 * Dynamic LNET Config - Allows runtime configuration of Lustre networks, routes, and routers. https://jira.hpdd.intel.com/browse/LU-2456 * OST Placement - Provides fine-grained control of object placement via 'lfs setstripe'. This development originated from Fujitsu. https://jira.hpdd.intel.com/browse/LU-4665 * UID/GID Mapping -This is an IU developed feature that will allow mapping certain networks into pre-defined user/group ranges in order to avoid potential overlaps within different administrative domains. This is a technology preview that will be fully available in a future Lustre release. https://jira.hpdd.intel.com/browse/LU-3291 * DNE Striped Directory preview -While the striped directories are available in 2.7, it is not yet possible to do hard links or atomic rename() of files across MDTs within a striped directory, which will return -EXDEV. This will cause userspace tools like mv and rsync to make a copy of the file, but may be unexpected for some applications and users. https://jira.hpdd.intel.com/browse/LU-3531 Fuller details can be found in the Changelog: https://wiki.hpdd.intel.com/display/PUB/Changelog+2.7 The following are known issues in the Lustre 2.7 Release: * https://jira.hpdd.intel.com/browse/LU-5939 - HSM agent operations might be replayed improperly in case of a server crash due to recovery. While producing error messages from HSM client at the time, this is safe since the agent will retry once the server is back up. * https://jira.hpdd.intel.com/browse/LU-6338 - Command lnetctl import del may show an error message even when the operation was successful. * https://jira.hpdd.intel.com/browse/LU-6340 - Sample lnet startup script may improperly configure Lustre routers configuration if both old and new style config information is present. NOTE: Users should note that usage of the e2fsprogs-based lfsck has been deprecated and replaced by "lctl lfsck_start=94. Using older e2fsprogs-based lfsck may lead to filesystem corruption. Once available, it is also recommended to use e2fsprogs-1.42.12.wc1 (or newer). Please log any issues found through the issue tracking system https://jira.hpdd.intel.com We would like to thank OpenSFS (http://www.opensfs.org) for their contributions towards the cost of the release and also to all Lustre community members who have contributed to the release with code and/or testing. Message-ID: <002a01d13834$685c7680$39156380$@opensfs.org> Call For Participation - Abstracts Due Feb 12th LUG 2016 is the primary event for technical presentations and discussions on the Lustre parallel file system. This year's conference is being held in Portland, OR, from April 5-7, 2016. Call for Presentations OpenSFS relies on the real world experience of the open source Lustre community members to provide valuable sessions to LUG attendees. We're pleased to extend a call for presentations to solicit topics from Lustre users. The over-arching goal of the conference is to provide a forum for end user sites to share knowledge and experience with their peers. With that in mind, the LUG Program Committee will prioritize abstracts from end users and their organizations The LUG planning committee is looking for the following submission topics: * Best practices in deploying, monitoring and operating Lustre * Case studies/experiences using newer Lustre releases/features * Non-traditional deployment (for example from members of the business community) We are also looking for presentations related to specific development challenges, new feature development, project updates, edge-case implementations, and more. We are only interested in development that is freely released to the community. To submit an abstract please visit the LUG 2016 Call for Presentation Submission Website . The abstract submission deadline is February 12, 2016. No submission extensions will be granted. Abstracts should be a minimum of 250 words and should provide a clear description of the planned presentation and its goals. If the presentation describes new development or products then the abstract is required to detail how the development or product will be made available to the Lustre community. Authors must disclose if their presentations are vendor-neutral or promoting a product at abstract submission time. Promotional presentations are frowned upon. Presentations that are vendor-neutral are strongly preferred. Speaking slots are available for Gold sponsors wishing to present vendor-specific and promotional presentations. Sponsorship details are available on the LUG web site . All LUG presentations will be 30 minutes, with a total of 25 speaking opportunities available. Accepted presentations will be subject to panel review three weeks in advance of LUG 2016. With the ongoing growth and outstanding progress of the Lustre community, LUG 2016 promises to be an exciting and informative event. Registration details and additional information will be available in the coming weeks on the LUG web site . We look forward to seeing you in Portland at LUG 2016!
