Sorry for reviving an old thread, but this has plagued me for a while now. I've tried everything I can think of (hotspotting through my phone, running nmap against whamcloud, which didn't show the git server port, trying to download via a git client on my
phone, etc), but nothing is working.</div>

When I visit the page via the browser it works, but sends me through Cloudflare first. I suspect this is where the issue lies — Cloudflare doesn't play well with selfhosted git in many cases. Pivoting to the github release mirror works fine for Lustre itself,
but non-mirrored repos obviously don't (e.g., protocol.git, which I've been working to refactor and merge into the wiki). I was able to get the files I need by browsing the tree and then clicking on "snapshot", which gives me a tar.gz file, but this is clumsy
and I had to hunt for a while to figure it out.</div>

If Peter or somebody else can shed some light on what security actually was put in play it would help me reason about whether this is really just me, or if lots of people have had to pivot to the mirror and this is a more generalizable problem for the git.whamcloud.com
