Hm, so you actually have a circular loop? I wonder if you can e.g. run  
your (or similar setup)
in vmware on or other environment that allows to attach gdb to running  
kernel, reproduce and then
see what's going on.

I did some searches and while I remember some similar thing being  
fixed, I cannot find it
and I think it was only happening on server anyway. Might be somebody  
else can remember more.
