If there is a critical problem with a given release then we have a note 
on the lustre.org wiki front page until a newer release comes out.  If 
you are talking about running older releases of Lustre (i.e. not the 
most current maintenance release for a given release stream) then I 
would think that the changelog is the most definitive source of information.
