In the 1.8 release the OSS nodes will cache reads with little/no performance
impact even if your app doesn't use them, but of course performance
improvement if you app DOES re-read files commonly, so that should be taken
into account.

The MGS needs virtually no disk IO, so using smallest/cheapest SATA drives
is fine.

That's because this section is old.  If you want more MDS performance (up
to a limit) adding more cores + RAM is useful.
