[Lustre-discuss] [zfs-discuss] Problems getting Lustre started with ZFS

You can do this with the --index option to mkfs, for example:

mkfs.lustre --fsname=(name) --ost --backfstype=zfs --index=0 
--mgsnode=....(etc)

Makes 0000, --index=1 makes 1, and so on.
