The only issue with it is that you mount with a name like /dev/mapper/mdt-1 and all errors in the logs, etc. show up as /dev/dm-04.

Make sure you've got a mapping between the two somewhere other than on the machine (I'd include SCSI wwns in there as well, as they can't lie)

Interesting.  The Lustre manual has a section on mounting by label, and it claims this should’t be used in multi-path environments.  Could that information be outdated?
