Having an example of the messages being logged would be useful.

You are of course free to edit the l_getidentity.c file and compile+install your own version.  That is the beauty of open source software.  Ideally, you could do this in a way that makes the logging more flexible (i.e. a configurable option), and you would submit this patch to Gerrit so that others can use this in the future.
