If you have already stopped file creation on the MDTs with max_create_count=0, and migrated all of the objects off the OSTs, then deactivating the OSC devices on the clients should be a no-op since the clients should not be accessing them anyway.

<div>The main effect of this is that the devices will not appear in "lfs df" and if the clients try to access them for any reason they will immediately return an error instead of waiting for the RPC to complete. <br>

https://doc.lustre.org/lustre_manual.xhtml#lustremaint.remove_ost</a> dozens of times to remove old OSTs but have always done so when the system is not mounted by clients. I have another couple dozen OSTs ready to be removed. Can I safely run the "mgs# lctl
conf_param ost_name.osc.active=0" step while clients are mounted and the file system is active?</div>
