Dear All,

I want to download and build the lustre version which is the right for me.

I see this on the download page:

Lustre source code
lustre-1.6.4.2.tar.gz
<http://cds.sun.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/WFS/CDS-CDS_SMI-Site/en_US/-/USD/VerifyItem-Start/lustre-1.6.4.2.tar.gz?BundledLineItemUUID=FlhIBe.oCBQAAAEYG5xNb4UP&OrderID=MrNIBe.obzYAAAEY65tNb4UP&ProductID=zKvACUFBHQ4AAAEYl3A5AXj5&FileName=/lustre-1.6.4.2.tar.gz>
3.85 MB

<http://cds.sun.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/WFS/CDS-CDS_SMI-Site/en_US/-/USD/VerifyItem-Start/lustre-debuginfo-1.6.4.2-2.6.18_8.1.14.el5_lustre.1.6.4.2smp.x86_64.rpm?BundledLineItemUUID=qDVIBe.oHa4AAAEYJZxNb4UP&OrderID=MrNIBe.obzYAAAEY65tNb4UP&ProductID=zKvACUFBHQ4AAAEYl3A5AXj5&FileName=/lustre-debuginfo-1.6.4.2-2.6.18_8.1.14.el5_lustre.1.6.4.2smp.x86_64.rpm>Lustre
sources (installable RPM)
lustre-source-1.6.4.2-2.6.18_8.1.14.el5_lustre.1.6.4.2smp.x86_64.rpm
<http://cds.sun.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/WFS/CDS-CDS_SMI-Site/en_US/-/USD/VerifyItem-Start/lustre-source-1.6.4.2-2.6.18_8.1.14.el5_lustre.1.6.4.2smp.x86_64.rpm?BundledLineItemUUID=svRIBe.ogIMAAAEYTpxNb4UP&OrderID=MrNIBe.obzYAAAEY65tNb4UP&ProductID=zKvACUFBHQ4AAAEYl3A5AXj5&FileName=/lustre-source-1.6.4.2-2.6.18_8.1.14.el5_lustre.1.6.4.2smp.x86_64.rpm>
3.95 MB

- What is the difference between the above two file? Only the
istallation way?

Sources for Lustre-patched kernel (installable RPM)
kernel-lustre-source-2.6.18-8.1.14.el5_lustre.1.6.4.2.x86_64.rpm

56.01 MB

Base Linux Kernel Source (unpatched)
linux-2.6.18-8.1.14.el5.tar.bz2
<http://cds.sun.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/WFS/CDS-CDS_SMI-Site/en_US/-/USD/VerifyItem-Start/linux-2.6.18-8.1.14.el5.tar.bz2?BundledLineItemUUID=MH1IBe.o4p8AAAEYpJxNb4UP&OrderID=MrNIBe.obzYAAAEY65tNb4UP&ProductID=zKvACUFBHQ4AAAEYl3A5AXj5&FileName=/linux-2.6.18-8.1.14.el5.tar.bz2>
42.25 MB

If the the rpm version is patched,which patches does it have? For
example I don't find in its source any lustre related code, ldiskfs, or
something like that.

If I try to build it, I get various errors.

With kernel-source rpm I get a message, don't use kernel-source rpm, or
if I make a full build in the kernel directory not only 'make
include/asm; make include/linux/version.h; make SUBDIRS=scripts' with
the linux tar.bz2 I get an other error message (sorry, at this moment I
do not remember to all errors, but if you want, I can replay them).

So may latest question is how to make a full build, which file do I have
to download and what is the right build way for make a full tarball
(kernel, utils, modules, etc.)

Thank you,

tamas
