Ah, thanks! Hmm, running tunefs.lustre on a filesystem in production is not always easy. 
Will lctl also do the job? Something like 

lctl fsname-MDT000.mdt.quota_type=ug

for i in `lctl dl | awk '{print $4}' | sed -e 's/-osc$//'`; do lctl ${i}.mdt.quota_type=ug; done

on the MGS?
