It _might_ be possible to mix the filesystems in this way, but we never test in this mode on a single server. It is definitely possible when running the different targets on different servers, as we have tested ldiskfs MDT and ZFS OST a fair amount.

ZFS is functional in all version of Lustre since Lustre 2.4.    If you have a Lustre version from the last few years  you can deploy ZFS OST.
