is there anyway to specify the installation directory for the kernel
modules during the 'make install' step?  on rhel7 by default it seems
to push them into /lib/modules, but i want them to go to a completely
different area

the kmp-moddir switch seems to add a path to the end of the
/lib/modules path, but doesn't override it

i guess i could add a series of ../.. to the path, but that's seems
hackish, even more so then what i'm already doing...
